what is a hackathon?
A hackathon is when a bunch of small teams come together to build something and share it with the community!
how do we sign up? / Where is it? / What's the 2-day schedule? / what do we get if we win?
We will post the Registration Form, place information, schedule, and list of prizes for each placing and specific categories will be posted when the event is sooner in early Spring 2022.
What’s happening at the start of the hackathon?
An opening ceremony of a presentation and overview of the hackathon will take place. You'll also be able to get food and drinks. You'll get more information on where you will be able to stay as you're working on your projects. We'll also have some ice breakers to encourage you all to get to know each other and have the chance to form teams.
what about accommodations (e.g. food, drink)?
For accommodations like that, anyone can talk to CPP Catering Services for what they provide.
anything we should know in person?
We'll have to follow COVID guidelines, so masks will be mandatory.
how will the hackathon be hosted online?
Presentations will be held on Zoom, and everyone can chat in the Discord Server!
Who is allowed to enter the hackathon? only cpp students?
Our goal is to be inclusive, so we are open to neighboring schools and anyone passionate about building projects! We want to include as many people as we can, so we will be covering all levels of experience!
will there be workshops for people new at coding?
Yes, we will be having workshops with different topics that are sourced from the various clubs in charge of the hackathon and other more!
How many people are allowed to be on a team?
1-4 people.
How may i find a team? / Is it okay if I work alone?
You may find a team at the Hackathon itself or in the Discord Server! If you prefer to work alone, that is completely fine! If you can't find a team, please indicate that on the registration form later, and we may match you up with others who are also looking for a team!
Where will we submit our projects?
Devpost! We will share a link to this later when the event is sooner.
What will the judging criteria be?
For now, we have ideas for Best UI (User Interface), Highest Skill Level (which is the most technologically sophisticated), Best Overall Beginner/Lower Division Project, and Best Overall Advanced/Upper Division Project.
Can I submit a project I've already worked on?
No, because we want the project to come from the duration of the hackathon, and there would be an unfair advantage compared to those who are developing the project during the hackathon time.
Do I have to hack or make a project?
Not at all! You could attend workshops to learn, take part in games, and network and socialize with others!
Are hardware hacks allowed?
For this hackathon, we are keeping it software-related only due to the judging criteria and logistics.
